We all woke up this morning on land that is occupied illegally by settlers today. At this moment, this map is rendered to display the stolen land of the Duwamish and Coast Salish people. We can and will acknowledge the complexity of the intersectional histories and narratives of indigenous people and enslaved people from across the African diaspora while also amplifying Black Joy in this digital space. To this end, the Black Joy Map is a collection of memories, stories and moments of joy Black folx have experienced in relation to spaces on lands belonging to its original stewards. Click on the planets on the map to view experiences of Black joy. To participate, find a location where you experienced joy, click on the map, and describe the joy that happened there to share for others to see. This digital space transcends beyond the physical, please feel empowered to also share memories of places that are no longer “there”.
